Can my child bring homework to work on from school, to the Study Station?
Absolutely! We will gain insight to where your child’s academic skills are through the initial assessment- from the assessment, we will discuss our plan for the sessions. The tutoring sessions may include curriculum as well as various teaching materials and strategies from many years of experience in the schools and/or your child may also bring homework to complete at our session for further clarification/support. Sometimes, it may be a little bit of both depending on student need; it is truly individualized.
Are you able to communicate with my child’s teacher?
W ebelieve in working as a team! If you are okay with us communicating with the teacher and give us permission, we would definitely work with the teacher to help meet your child’s needs. Collaboration is key!
How do you communicate progress?
We will informally communicate progress after sessions with you. We will also be progress monitoring your child as we go to determine my next steps with teaching and to ensure progress.
If my child has both academic needs in literacy and math, do I need to sign up for separate sessions?
Due to our sessions are only 50 minutes, you will need to sign up for separate sessions for both literacy and math. For instance, your child may have one session a week just to focus on math and then another session a week to focus on literacy (reading/writing). Our sessions fly by and we want to spend our time focusing on that specific subject in the allotted time available.
How long do you recommend tutoring for? And how often?
In order to see increased confidence, independence and skill growth over a period of time, we do recommend committing to tutoring for the school year. We also recommend attending a session once a week to practice and retain skills.
